Academics

We provide a rigorous academic curriculum to prepare students for future success in college and the workforce. Our curriculum is aligned to the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards (NGLS) and meets all New York State and NYC DOE educational standards. Our core programs include:

  • Early Learning: iRead (computer-based English literacy program for PreK-2)
  • Language Arts/Literacy: HMH (Into Reading) and Ariba La Tectura (Spanish)
  • Math: HMH Go Math; Spatial-Temporal Math/ST Math (Mind Research Institute)
  • Science: HMH (Science Dimensions)
  • Social Studies: HMH (Into Social Studies)

Project-Based Learning (PBL)

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a research-based instructional model built around student-led inquiry and hands-on learning. Students engage with grade-level standards and content within the context of real-world challenges. PBL units incorporate academics with critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills. At the end of each cross-curricular unit, students complete a final project that they design themselves. We have partnered with the Columbia Teachers College Center for Technology and School Change, Materials for the Arts, New York Institute for Technology (NYIT), and other community organizations to develop many of our PBL units.

STEAM with a Capital "A"

At PS 152M, we’re all about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math)—and we make sure we don’t forget the "A" in STEAM! The arts are a large part of our heritage. Students explore cultures through visual arts, music, and dance. We also infuse coding, engineering, and technology into the classroom.

Academic Support

We offer a full range of Special Education (SPED) services for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). We also provide academic support for any student struggling to master grade-level standards. Your child’s teachers will work with you to identify your child’s needs and make sure they are getting the help they need to be successful. Our support services include:

  • SPED services including speech and language and occupational therapy
  • Intervention services for students needing help with grade-level math and literacy skills
  • In-house school psychologist, guidance counselor, and social workers
  • School-based mental health clinic through Columbia Presbyterian Hospital
